ISLAMABAD: An anti-terrorism court in Islamabad on Tuesday granted a two-day physical remand of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Ali Amin Gandapur. The verdict was announced by Judicial Magistrate Ehtisham Alam after the police filed an application seeking the physical remand of the PTI leader.
Following the court order, Gandapur was handed over to police custody.
During the outset of court proceedings today, Gandapur’s lawyer Babar Awan argued that the case against his client was registered after six months on the basis of an old audio clip run on a private TV channel. He suggested that his client’s voice should be matched in court, rather than being remanded to police custody on the basis of voice matching.
However, the prosecutor contended that they not only wanted to match his voice, but they also wanted to recover weapons from the accused. Earlier, the court quashed the terrorism sections from the case registered against Gandapur.
After hearing the arguments, the court remanded Gandapur in police custody for 2 days, and ordered Investigation Officer to appear at the next date of hearing with complete report.
