Baramulla, starring Manav Kaul and Bhasha Sumbli, is a supernatural thriller blending mystery and horror, wrapped into one.
It’s about a police officer whose investigation of a series of missing children unravels chilling secrets, as dark forces begin to threaten his own family and the fragile peace of the valley.
The movie is set amidst the haunting beauty and tension of Kashmir. The movie begins in November 2016, when Shoaib Ansari, a 13-year-old boy and son of the local MLA, suddenly disappears without a trace in Baramulla. A month later, DSP Ridwaan Sayyed is assigned to the case. His wife, Gulnaar, is relocated together with their children, Ayaan and Noorie. The family is provided with an old house with a mute caretaker, Iqbal.
As officer Ridwaan busies himself in the investigation, his wife Gulnaar and the children begin to sense a dark presence in their home. When another child disappears, leaving a lock of hair behind, Ridwaan realizes a terrifying pattern. The mystery deepens, and he finds that his own children might be the next targets. What ensues is a harrowing journey into fear, loss, and the unknown.
Is it anti-Pakistan?
The movie is not explicitly “anti-Pakistan” in its primary narrative, however, some could perceive it as critical due to its link to Kashmir and the themes in the context of the region’s history.
