The Pakistani government is poised to suspend mobile phone services in over a dozen cities in the upcoming by-elections, to be held tomorrow, citing security concerns.
According to a report from ARY News, internet and mobile services are anticipated to remain suspended in several major cities during the forthcoming by-elections in Pakistan.
This expected internet suspension comes amidst a surge in terrorist attacks in the South Asian nation. Additionally, the Punjab home ministry has urged the federal interior ministry to suspend internet services on the day of the by-elections.
The suspension is projected to impact cities including Lahore, DG Khan, Gujrat, Sheikhupura, Sadiq Abad, Chakwal, Talagang, Alipur, Zafarwal, Bhakkar, Kasur, Alipur, and Kot Chatta.
Furthermore, the provincial government has enforced Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code in districts where the by-elections are scheduled to take place. The by-elections are scheduled for April 21, with 47 candidates vying for five National Assembly seats and 16 Provincial Assembly seats.
