India’s bewilderment

Editorial by Editorial

After Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi’s successful visit to China and the significant achievements made during it, India’s confusion has come to the fore.

The joint statement of the second round of the China-Pakistan Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue stated that the Kashmir issue should be resolved according to the relevant UNSC resolutions and opposed unilateral actions in the region.

In this regard, India rejected the joint statement and said that the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir is an integral and inalienable part of India and its expects the parties concerned not to interfere in internal matters.

The recent statement from the India Ministry of External Affairs demonstrates that the strong relationship between Pakistan and China is troubling the neighbour. The Foreign Office in Pakistan also rejected India’s unwarranted and irresponsible comments on the joint press release.

India’s contentions about Jammu and Kashmir being the so-called integral and inalienable part and an internal affair are a laughable fiction. The statement is totally contrary to historical and legal facts and in violation of the relevant UNSC resolutions.

India is using these irrelevant tricks to change the facts and divert attention from state terrorism in Occupied Kashmir and its egregious violations of human rights of the Kashmiri people.

India’s bewilderment is also increasing due to the development of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). India has created malicious propaganda against the project. China has been increasing its presence in the Indian Ocean with the ‘String of Pearls’ ambition – a term coined by the Americans and often used by Indian defence analysts to refer to a Chinese game-plan of encircling India through a network of airfields and ports.

CPEC is poised to speed up Pakistan’s economic progress. With the supply of raw material from China becoming easier, Pakistan will be suitably placed to become a regional market leader in these sectors – mainly at the cost of Indian export volumes, which is also the reason behind the troubles of India.

Pakistan should not focus on such irresponsible Indian comments and its focal point should be the development of economy. In this regard, the government should take all possible steps to further strengthen Pak-China relationship and increase the pace of development work of CPEC.
