ANKARA: A powerful 7.8 earthquake struck Turkey and Syria during the wee hours of Monday morning, killing more than 500 people and injuring thousands other.

Among the worst part hit by the earthquake is Kahramanmaraş.

Officials said rescue and relief operation continues in the affected areas and the casualties are set to rise as more and more bodies are being pulled out of the rubbles.

Local disaster management authority said Turkey alone received some 66 aftershocks, some as strong as magnitude 6.6, due to which more than 1700 buildings had collapsed in southeastern region.
