India blocks Pakistan government’s X account following Pahalgam attack

In a move reflective of growing hostilities, the Indian government on Thursday withheld access to the official X (formerly Twitter) account of the Government of Pakistan, @GovtofPakistan, within Indian territory, as confirmed by the Indian media.

According to different reports, the users attempting to view the account are now met with a notice citing legal demands as the reason for the blockade. This action comes in the wake of escalating tensions between Islamabad and New Delhi, particularly after a recent attack in Pahalgam, which resulted in the deaths of 28 individuals.

While the Indian authorities have swiftly blamed cross-border elements, no credible evidence has been presented, and Pakistan has consistently maintained its position of condemning all forms of terrorism. On the ground, Indian military operations continue in the disputed region of Jammu and Kashmir.

The situation remains tense, particularly after the Pahalgam incident, which Indian media have described as one of the deadliest since 2019. However, voices within Pakistan and international observers continue to call for a de-escalation of rhetoric and a transparent investigation into the events.

Earlier, Indian authorities announced the immediate closure of the Attari check post located at the Attari-Wagah border, which is the only road link between the two countries. The Attari-Wagah check post, which was a key route for trade and public connections, has been closed immediately, and Pakistanis present in India have been instructed to return to their homeland by May 1, 2025.
