The arrests of PTI officials Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Ejaz Chaudhry, and former party member Maleeka Bokhari under the Maintenance of Public Order Act have been deemed “illegal” by the Islamabad High Court in separate rulings.
Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb set aside the district magistrate’s detention order “for not being compliant with the law”.
Since Imran’s arrest and subsequent bail, several PTI leaders and supporters have been detained and later released.
After being released, Asad Umar, Fawad Chaudhry, Dr Shireen Mazari announced their decision to quit PTI. The latest PTI member to announce his decision to part ways with the party was Ali Zaidi.
Zaidi made his intention to leave politics and his party posts known in a video statement on Saturday.
He stated in a video message that his primary motivation for entering politics was to help Pakistan become better.
Ali reaffirmed his dedication to helping Pakistan and claimed he has already denounced the events of May 9.
Regardless of who was involved, he declared, “Whatever happened was wrong, and all those responsible should be brought to justice.”
Meanwhile, PTI Senator Shahzad Waseem has condemned the violent incidents of May 9 in which military installations were attacked but said he will continue to fulfill his duties as the Opposition Leader.
Addressing the media in Islamabad, he mentioned the Pakistan Army’s “sacrifices and efforts in defending the country” and termed the attack on the Lahore Corps Commander House as “unacceptable”. He said, “You cannot light your house by setting it on fire.”
