LAHORE: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has praised former Pakistan women cricket captain Sana Mir for an excellent career.
Sana Mir who played 226 international matches, including 137 as captain announced her retirement here on April 25 after a 15 years successful and illustrious career.
The 34-year old cricketer had represented Pakistan in 226 internationals since her debut in 2005 and was a captain in 137 of them. The off-spinner is the leading wicket-taker for Pakistan in ODIs and second-highest behind Nida Dar in T20Is.
Mir is also Pakistan’s third-highest run-scorer in ODIs (1,630) and is among a select group of players to have the double of 1000 runs and 100 wickets in ODIs. She has the rare achievement of having played 100 T20Is.
ICC Chief Executive Manu Sawhney has that Sana Mir has been the face of Pakistan cricket and is one of the most consistent performers across the globe.
He said “This is an important period for the women’s game and I hope Sana will be able to use her vast experience and contribute to its growth in whatever way she can. On behalf of everyone at the ICC, I wish her all the very best for her future,” he added.
In a statement, Mir said, “The last few months have provided me with an opportunity to contemplate. I feel it is the right time for me to move on. I believe I have contributed to the best of my ability for my country and the sport.”
She also thanked her family and mentors and hoped to continue serving her departmental team Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL).
