The latest series in Rockstar Games’ globally acclaimed Grand Theft Auto franchise is widely expected to become the biggest and most significant video game launch of 2026.
Pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) opened at midnight on 25 June across the UK and many other countries. Earlier in June, Rockstar unveiled the official pre-order date alongside the game’s key artwork, further fuelling anticipation among fans.
Industry analysts believe GTA 6 could become the most expensive video game ever produced, with development costs estimated to have exceeded US$1 billion (£866 million).
GTA 6 is scheduled for global release on 19 November 2026. With pre-orders now officially underway, there is little expectation that the release date will change.
The game has already been delayed twice. It was originally expected to launch in late 2025 before being postponed to May 2026. Announcing the second delay, Rockstar said it required additional time to deliver the level of quality that players expect and deserve.
Players who pre-order the game will be able to begin downloading it from 12 November, allowing them to play immediately once it becomes available on release day.
The sixth main entry in the series will be available for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
No release date has yet been announced for the PC version, and Rockstar has not confirmed whether the game will be available on the Nintendo Switch 2.
In the UK, the standard edition will retail for approximately £70, while the US price has been set at US$80. The Ultimate Edition will cost around £90 in the UK and US$100 in the United States, and will include additional vehicles, weapons and bonus content.
