Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has announced a significant initiative aimed at improving access to identity card services throughout Pakistan.
The minister revealed that every Union Council across the nation will soon be equipped to provide services for both issuing and renewing Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs).
Naqvi made this declaration during a visit to the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) headquarters in Islamabad today. He instructed officials to expedite the development of a comprehensive plan to implement this initiative promptly.
As part of this plan, Naqvi emphasized the installation of biometric machines at the Union Council level to streamline the identification process. He also stressed the need for enhancements to the existing ID card system, aiming for improved efficiency, security, and effectiveness.
Acknowledging the challenges faced by citizens when visiting NADRA centers, the Interior Minister instructed authorities to devise strategies to facilitate smoother experiences for visitors. Additionally, Naqvi directed the expansion of NADRA centers in six major cities, including Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta, Islamabad, and Rawalpindi, to cater to the increasing demand for identity card services.
In a bid to combat fraudulent activities related to identity cards, Naqvi issued strict directives to crack down on fake identity card networks effectively.
During his visit, the Interior Minister also toured the NADRA operational room, where he received a comprehensive briefing on the agency’s digital monitoring system, aimed at enhancing oversight and accountability across NADRA centers nationwide.
