ISLAMABAD: The government employees staged a protest in front of Parliament House, seeking an increase in salaries and allowances according to the prevailing inflation.
According to details, hundreds of protestors forcibly removed the barriers imposed by the federal police and entered the red zone. The police and civil administration completely failed to stop the protestors.
The protestors chanted slogans against the government and demanded 100 percent increase in different allowances. Holding banners and placards inscribed with their demands the protesters said the employees were fully united to continue agitation till resolution of their issues.
The protesters sought timescale for all public sector employees, merger of ad hoc reliefs in regular pay, increasing medical allowance to Rs10,000, giving house rent on running pay and doing away with the contract policy.
PML-N leader Khawaja Asif, PPP leaders Farhatullah Babar and Faisal Karim Kundi, JUI-F leader Abdul Ghafoor Haideri and other opposition leaders addressed the gathering.
On this occasion, Khawaja Asif said, “We will be your voice in the assembly, especially those who have come from KPK, waiting for almost 7 years for increase in salaries.”
Meanwhile, PPP leader Faisal Karim Kundi said that his party had already given rights to the employees. “The legitimate demands of the employees should be accepted in any case,” he added.
