The federal government has decided to abolish the TV license fee from electricity bills. A monthly fee of 35 rupees is currently collected from residential and industrial consumers.
The Ministry of Energy’s Power Division has prepared a plan to eliminate the TV license fee.
Currently, a 35-rupee fee is charged each month from residential users under this category, and industrial and commercial consumers are also subject to the same fee.
On the Prime Minister’s directive, a plan has been formulated to remove the TV license fee and other unnecessary surcharges. Recommendations will be presented in a meeting chaired by the Prime Minister next week.
Across the country, approximately 1.5 billion rupees are collected under the TV license fee from 42.6 million consumers.
