The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society reported that dozens of Palestinians recently released from Israeli jails showed clear signs of torture and starvation. This came after the most recent group of detainees were released on Saturday.
According to a report by Al-Jazeera on Saturday, as part of the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel, 183 Palestinian prisoners were released. Emerging in grey prison jumpsuits, their prolonged detention was evident in the stains and wear.
The report states that many appeared weak and exhausted as they walked from the bus to the European Hospital in Khan Younis, Gaza, where they were welcomed by cheering crowds and reunited with their families. “Each time prisoners are released, their bodies reveal the extent of crimes committed against them,” the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society stated.
“These include severe torture, unprecedented since October 7, deliberate starvation, medical neglect, scabies infections, and brutal beatings. Many detainees testified that they were assaulted for days before their release, leading in some cases to fractured ribs.”
The organization further accused Israeli authorities of “organized terrorism” against the prisoners and their families. “The most prominent methods include severe beatings and threats of death if any public celebrations were held upon their release,” the statement added.
