ISLAMABAD: The PTI government has made last ditch attempts to placate disgruntled allies including Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) ahead of the no-confidence motion against the prime minister.
In this regard, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi along with Defence Minister Pervez Khattak will meet Speaker Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Pervez Elahi in Lahore tomorrow on Saturday.
The meeting was scheduled in a telephonic conversation between Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Chaudhry Pervez Elahi during which they discussed the ongoing political scenario. Qureshi will convey an important message of Prime Minister Imran Khan to the Chaudhry Brothers.
The PML-Q is yet to take a clear stance over the upcoming motion of no-confidence. The motion is expected to be put to vote on March 28. A session of the National Assembly was adjourned on Friday without the resolution being tabled.
Another PTI government ally Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has still undecided on whether it will remain or part ways with the coalition government, saying consultations were still on voting during the no-confidence motion.
The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has assured the MQM-P of accepting its “demands” in return for support in the opposition’s no-trust move. The development came after a MQM-P delegation met the PPP leadership including chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and former president Asif Ali Zardari at a luncheon in Islamabad on Thursday. The MQM-P delegation included Convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Aamir Khan, Aminul Haq, Wasim Akhtar and Javed Hanif.
In a statement, MQM-P senior leader Aamir Khan said consultation was underway and no decision had been taken thus far regarding parting ways with the PTI-led coalition government. He said all decisions will be taken keeping in view the interests of Karachi and its people and they would announce their decision before voting.
