FM Qureshi lauds Turkish President’s stance on Islamophobia

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Wednesday lauded Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s clear stance against the growing trend of Islamophobia.

The foreign minister telephoned his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu and discussed bilateral relations and matters of mutual interest. He felicitated his Turkish counterpart on 97th Republic Day of Turkey.

The Turkish Foreign Minister said Prime Minister Imran Khan’s statement about Islamophobia is commendable. The prime minister had strongly condemned French President Macron for the rising Islamophobic attitude against Muslims and the republication of blasphemous caricatures.

Qureshi thanked the Turkish Foreign Minister for supporting Pakistan on Financial Action Task Force(FATF). The Turkish Foreign Minister appreciated Pakistan’s efforts regarding the successful implementation of the FATF action plan.

Expressing grief over the Peshawar blast, the Turkish foreign minister expressed condolence over the loss of precious lives in the incident.

Earlier today, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi held a telephonic conversation with his Afghanistan counterpart Mohammad Hanif Atmar. The foreign minister of Pakistan is desirous of a peaceful, prosperous and stable Afghanistan. He said peace in Afghanistan is linked with peace and stability of the region.

Qureshi said intra-Afghan dialogue provides an excellent opportunity for peace and the Afghan leadership must seize this opportunity. He said it is imperative to make the peace talks are result-oriented in order to realise the dream of durable peace in Afghanistan.

He said Pakistan will continue its sincere efforts for peace and stability in the region including Afghanistan. Alluding to the historic fraternal ties between both countries, Qureshi said Pakistan has announced a new visa policy to facilitate the travel of Afghans.
