ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Sunday arrived in Bucharest, on the first leg of his three-day official visit to Romania and Spain.
Upon arrival at the airport, the foreign minister was received by Ambassador of Pakistan Dr Zafar Iqbal and senior officials of the Romanian foreign ministry.
During the first leg of his visit, the foreign minister will stay in Bucharest till tomorrow at the invitation of Romania’s Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu. Shah Mahmood Qureshi will hold wide-ranging consultations with his Romanian counterpart and other dignitaries on regional and international issues.
He will subsequently visit Spain at the invitation of Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares Bueno and will stay till Wednesday. Besides meeting with his Spanish counterpart, Qureshi will hold talks with other ministers and members of the Spanish Parliament.
According to the Foreign Office, a large Pakistani diaspora in Spain serves as a strong bridge between the two countries. In 2021, Pakistan and Spain celebrated the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
Romania and Spain are important partners of Pakistan, both bilaterally and in the context of the European Union. The visit will give further impetus to the growing cooperation with these two friendly countries.

OIC Session in March
Earlier Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs Shah Mahmood Qureshi said Pakistan is gearing up to host the next Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) meeting of foreign ministers on March 22 and 23.
“March 23 parade for the first time in the history will see participation from a large number of foreign ministers of the Muslim world,” he said while speaking at a seminar in Islamabad.
Sharing details of the upcoming session, the minister said the government is planning to take the foreign ministers to Nathiagali to show them the beauty of Pakistan.
Qureshi said that the 17th Extraordinary Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of OIC, which was held in December, provided a ray of hope to the Afghan people. He hoped that the meeting scheduled for March will be meaningful as well.
