NOWSHERA: Five people were killed and two others were seriously injured after an explosion in a scrap godown in Noweshera.
The incident occurred in Akbarpura area where an explosion took place in a warehouse and a huge fire erupted killing five people and injuring two others on the spot.
Upon hearing about the incident, police and rescue teams rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area. Rescue teams shifted the dead bodies and injured to a nearby hospital.
Police said the incident occurred after a mortar shell exploded. They said the incident seems to be an act of terrorism and further investigation is ongoing.
Nowshera District Police Officer (DPO) Najmul Hassan said injured persons have been shifted to a Peshawar hospital while there are fears of possible more deaths due to severe injuries. The blast took place at the godown owned by a man named Makram who deals in scrap goods.
