KARACHI: Federal Minister for inter-provincial coordination Ahsan ur Rehman Mazari has expressed his doubt that the upcoming general elections in Pakistan will take place on time.
The statements of the Federal Minister have raised questions about the transparency and impartiality of the upcoming general elections, and the involvement of political parties in the affairs of the PCB.
In an interview with a private TV channel, Mazari, who is also a PPP worker, said that the matter will be deferred as per the constitution and that nothing unconstitutional will happen.
During the interview, Mazari also reiterated the rule that a party holding a portfolio would decide the appointments in that ministry. As the PPP is currently holding the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination, he emphasized that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) should also be run by someone from their party.
Mazari went on to criticize the appointment of Najam Sethi, stating that he was not appointed with the consent of the People’s Party. He also mentioned receiving complaints about the formation of bogus clubs in two regions, which were given voting rights in the PCB. As a result, a letter has been written to the PCB seeking an explanation of the complaints.
Moreover, the minister said that they have summoned details of financial matters and appointments in the board, including those who have been removed or appointed in the last four months. The inquiry process has been initiated with the writing of the letter, he added.
