The interior ministry highlighted in the letter that in light of the security situation and the catastrophic flooding, the government is unable to offer security. “The AJK government should use its own resources for the upcoming LB polls,” it said.
Meanwhile, Azad Jammu and Kashmir Election Commission (AJK EC) held a meeting on Interior Ministry’s letter to Secretary Kashmir Affairs.
The AJK EC insisted throughout the meeting that the LB polls would go forward anyway and instructed the local administration to create a backup security strategy.
The Election Commission (EC) Azad Jammu and Kashmir published an updated schedule for the long overdue local bodies (LB) elections, setting the Election Day for November 27.
In accordance with a notification sent by the EC Secretary Sardar Mohammad Ghazanfar, voting would take place on November 27 from 8 am to 5 pm, and results would be tallied shortly after the polls closed after they were received from the presiding officers.
