Fawad skips NA session over coronavirus fears

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry has decided not to attend the session of the National Assembly on Friday (today) due to fear of the coronavirus.
The Senate and National Assembly are holding the first of the budgetary session today. The government is likely to present the federal budget for the financial year 2020-21 on June 12.
Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani and Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser yesterday reviewed arrangements for the sessions of parliament strictly adhering to Standing Operating Procedures and other safety measures.
Senate session commenced at 10 AM while the National Assembly will meet at 4PM. Fumigation has been carried in the parliament house for the safety of the lawmakers and staff.
This failed to convince the federal minister who called for convening virtual sessions of both houses of Parliament. He said the results of the physical sessions are emerging as many parliamentarians have contracted the infection over the past one week.
Fawad Chaudhry stressed on the need for strict adherence to preventive measures. He stated that safety precautions should now be flouted as they increase the risk of catching the disease.
