Fawad Chaudhry claims govt has lost authority, calls for political dialogue

Former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry has claimed that the government has effectively lost its authority and that the country’s existing system has collapsed, making fundamental reforms unavoidable.

He said negotiations between political parties and the establishment are necessary, but any dialogue would remain incomplete without Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan.

Criticising the government, Chaudhry said it had reached a point where even federal ministers were questioning the prime minister’s authority. “The arrow has already left the bow and cannot be brought back,” he said, adding that his party had warned during the no-confidence movement that it would remain in power for the next decade.

On the issue of dividing Punjab, the former minister said reforms could not focus on only one province while ignoring problems elsewhere. He argued that Punjab was historically better positioned in terms of governance and called for restoring Balochistan to its pre-1970 structure.

Chaudhry said the current system had lost its effectiveness and required major changes, with discussions needed on new provinces, stronger local governments or alternative administrative structures. He said continuing with the existing arrangement was no longer possible.

He also criticized government spending, alleging that the current leadership had spent more money than Mughal rulers, citing expensive aircraft purchases, event expenditures and financial allocations to various groups.
