KARACHI: A family has been diagnosed with novel coronavirus in Askari 4 area.
According to reports, the family has refused to coporate with authorities in the matter. Two of the family members are already in Intensive Care Units (ICU) with coronavirus related complications.
The domestic workers and driver of the family also tested positive for the virus yet the family refuses to cooperate with relevant authorities. As per sources, one of the family members continued playing cricket with his friends despite being a COVID-19 patient.
The family had been arranging a religious gathering in their house every week. Rangers personnel have been deployed outside their home to ensure that the family stays inside.
Moreover, a notice has been affixed outside the Aaksari 4, banning the entry and exit from and to the premises.
Last month, a 53-year-old resident of the city who had returned from Qatar was diagnosed with the virus. The first case of coronavirus in Pakistan was confirmed in February when a student in Karachi tested positive upon returning from Iran. By 18th March, cases had been registered in all four provinces, the two autonomous territories, and the federal territory of Islamabad.
Around 274 fresh cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) have been reported in Sindh during the last 24 hours, taking the total number of patients in the province to 3,954.
The provincial health authorities have conducted 2,561 tests of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, out of which 274 comes positive. Overall 35, 589 tests have been conducted to date.
