KARACHI: A former employee of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has been arrested by Sindh Rangers from Manzoor Colony on charges of killing four employees of the Fire Brigade. The accused was later handed over to the local police for further investigation.
According to the Senior Superintendent of Police (Investigation), the accused Shaikh Bilal Zafar Farooqi was employed by the CTD and was allegedly involved in several murders.
He said the accused Shaikh Bilal Zafar Farooqi was holding a Master’s degree from Karachi University and had resorted to the killing spree to avenge the murder of his father.
His first target, the SSP said, was a fire officer who was gunned down when coming out of the Civic Center. After his first kill, Shaikh Bilal Zafar Farooqi was dismissed from service and sent to jail.
A few days back, the police said, Farooqi was released from jail after which he planned more murders. A Kalashnikov and another weapon have also been recovered from his custody, the police added.
According to police records obtained by the MM News, Shaikh Bilal Zafar Farooqi was booked for murder and attempted murder in Liaqatabad in 2010, multiple robberies in the jurisdiction of Bahadurabad Police Station in the same year, murder and attempted murder in 2012 in Liaqatabad, booked for murder and terrorism case in 2015 in the jurisdiction of PIB Colony Police Station, and in the case of carrying an illegal weapon in the jurisdiction of Saddar Police Station in 2015.
