LAHORE: The entire staff of Ghaziabad Police Station, including Station House Officer (SHO) Ghaziabad, has been suspended for negligence and delay in action in a case involving the alleged rape of a mentally disabled girl by an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI).
According to police sources, DIG Operations Faisal Kamran paid a late-night visit to the police station and ordered the immediate suspension of the entire staff for delaying action and keeping senior officers in the dark.
During the visit, SHO Ghaziabad Shehryar was suspended and Ali Zeb Dastgir was appointed as the new SHO.
A total of 78 officials have been suspended, including sub-inspectors, 8 ASIs, and 5 head constables. The front desk staff, muharrar, drivers and constables are also among those suspended.
An FIR has been registered at Ghaziabad Police Station regarding the suspension of all officials, including the SHO.
It may be recalled that two days ago, ASI Imran of the Investigation Wing allegedly raped a mentally disabled girl. Police had registered a case against the accused ASI and arrested him.
Police officials confirmed that the accused ASI is currently in police custody and an investigation is underway. The role of the suspended officials is also being investigated, and further departmental or legal action may be taken in light of the findings.
