ISLAMABAD: Earthquake tremors were felt in parts of Islamabad, Peshawar and several parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday afternoon.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department’s (PMD) seismic centre said that details of the magnitude of the earthquake was recorded at 5.2 on the Richter Scale with a depth of 218 kilometres. The epicentre of the quake was near Afghanistan-Tajikistan border.
The earthquake was felt in several parts of South Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkwa. There were also felt in Swabi, Charsadda, Mardan, Abbottabad, Kohat, Buner and Malakand.
The tremors were felt in several parts of Punjab including Khanewal, Chiniot, Lahore, Chakwal, Multan, Faisalabad, and Toba Tek Singh.
Many people in affected areas ran from their houses and offices immediately after feeling the tremors. There were also no immediate reports of any casualties or damage.
According to US Geological Survey, the earthquake was recorded at 5.1 on the Richter Scale and the epicentre was located in Ashkssham, Badakhshan province of Afghanistan.
