ISLAMABAD: A 6.0-magnitude earthquake rattled several areas of Pakistan on Sunday, although no one has been hurt so far, the National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC) confirmed.
According to the National Seismic Meteorological Centre, the epicenter of the magnitude 6 tremor was at Tajikistan-Afghanistan border area with a depth of 233 km.
In the early hours of Sunday morning, after a temblor shook the region, locals fled from their homes to open spaces out of fear and panic.
Additionally affected by the tremors were the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa districts of Swat, Peshawar, Buttgram, Upper Dir, Swabi, Mardan, and Kohat as well as surrounding regions.
According to National Seismic Monitoring Centre in Islamabad, tremors were also felt at Lower Dir, Buner, Mohmand and Charsadda districts of KP.
According to reports, tremors were also felt at Murree, Chiniot, Phalya, Malikwal, Zafarwal, Shakargarh, Jalalpur Bhattian, Sara-e-Alamgir, Sargodha, Hujra Shah Muqeem, Farooqabad and Faisalabad.

Due to Pakistan’s location at the meeting point of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, earthquakes are a common occurrence there.
A tectonic plate known as the Indian plate is pushing against the Eurasian plate from the north, which is causing seismic activity across significant portions of South Asia.
