Authorities in the United Arab Emirates have streamlined the processing time and document requirements for residency visas and work documents.
Under the new guidelines announced by Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, the time to onboard new employees has been dramatically reduced from 30 days to just five. Additionally, the required documents have been minimized from 16 to only five.
Sheikh Mohammed introduced the plan as part of the “Zero Bureaucracy” efficiency drive, unveiling the inaugural “Employment Package.” This project aims to expedite, simplify, and streamline residency and employment processes. The online platform will handle various services, including issuing work and residency permits, renewing residency permits, conducting medical fitness tests for residency visas, and handling the cancellation of work permits and Emirates ID fingerprint scans.
While the platform will operate entirely online, certain procedures like medical checks and fingerprint scanning will still be conducted in person. The initiative is a key component of the Invest in Dubai platform, extending its services to over 275,000 companies in Dubai.
Sheikh Mohammed highlighted that the plan is set to reclaim a staggering 62 million working days spent on the process. It is expected to reduce 25 million procedures annually, resulting in substantial savings for both the government and private sectors.
This platform will soon be available for companies in other emirates, with collaborative efforts from entities such as Dubai Health, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, Dubai Economy, and Tourism, the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security, and the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai (GDRFA).
The initiative also eliminates the need for new employees to visit each department separately, streamlining the process both in-person and online. Lieutenant General Mohammed Al Marri, the general director of GDRFA-Dubai, anticipates a 25% increase in service transactions this year following the launch of the new platform.
