Avatar: The Last Airbender, the live-action adaptation of the hit Nickelodeon series of the same name, has been renewed for not one but two seasons.
The show will follow the original series’ structure, with each new season depicting Aang’s full story, mastering a different element.
Avatar: The Last Airbender
The Last Airbender follows Aang and his friends, Katara and Sokka, as they travel the world looking for masters to train him. The animated series is a standard half-hour program and while it’s beloved by many, it could have benefited from longer episodes — for example, Aang and Katara learn water bending at a very rushed pace.
Plot
Avatar: The Last Airbender is a coming-of-age story that follows Aang, a 12-year-old boy who is the key to saving the world. Along the way, Aang meets his friends Katara, Sokka, and others as they liberate the Water Tribe and Earth Kingdoms from the reign of the Fire Nation.
In the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender, people are born into one of four nations: the Water Tribe, Earth Kingdoms, Air Nomads, and the Fire Nation.
Depending on which nation you’re a part of, you might have the ability to be a ‘bender’ someone who can literally bend your nation’s element to your will and only the Avatar can master all four elements because he serves as the bridge between the humans and the spirit world.
The main plot of the series will follow Aang’s journey to becoming a fully realized Avatar while also giving them more room to develop the supporting cast and subplots that might have been brushed off in the original, using the extra runtime to its advantage.
Season 1: Ending
The ending of Avatar: The Last Airbender season 1 left Aang, and the show, in an uncertain place, but a new announcement has proven there’s no need to worry.
Popularity
The Last Airbender’s viewership has surpassed One Piece.
Season 2
The logos for Avatar: The Last Airbender seasons 2 and 3 indicate that not only will the live-action show finish out Aang’s story, it will follow the same structure as the original series. The original was separated into three books that followed the elements Aang had to master: water, earth, and fire.
Release date
Netflix has not yet announced an official release date for season 2, but we can expect it to arrive sometime in 2024 or 2025.
