Drowning Pakistani migrants

Irrespective of whether the content of ‘Main Nay Dhaka Doobte Dekha’ by Brig Siddiq Salik is called historical or controversial, a historical fact becomes clear by looking at the title of the book.

The fact is that in 1971, East Pakistan was separated from us and became Bangladesh, so seeing Dhaka drowning in this title meant being separated from its original homeland. Whatever the status of Bangladesh today, it has nothing to do with present-day Pakistan.

In the same way, when we think of leaving our homeland to go to another country, settle there, and then reside permanently there after getting employment, then our relationship with the present homeland also remains minor.

Our relationship is only that we send funds from there to our homeland or to our loved ones and relatives, which is called foreign exchange, that is, such aid that has come from outside the country.

Yesterday, sad news broke on the internet by the international media that the migrant boat sank in the sea of Greece and more than 100 people died, with more than 500 people on board.

Actually, this boat was carrying illegal immigrants from Libya to Italy by sea and suffered this terrible accident and the saddest thing is that according to some reports, most of the Pakistanis were on board.

There may be few or no Pakistanis on board the accident boat, but this is not the first incident of its kind and we know very well how many Pakistanis have lost their lives in such incidents.

It happens that when the Pakistani people are struggling to go out of the country, some people cheat them to go out and extort money and put their lives in danger by resorting to illegal means to send them out.

Then these people sometimes escape from this death due to lack of oxygen, sometimes due to drowning and sometimes being the target of bullets from foreign law enforcement agencies.

Regardless of the manner of death, those who die away from their homeland die in a state of great desperation. Even if their dead bodies reach their homeland, it will be too late for them to have passed away.

Those who survive, in most cases, are deported and bring disgrace to their own country. It is necessary that people should take a lesson from these incidents and an effective strategy should be formulated and implemented to prevent such incidents in the future.
