On the application of the Drug Testing Laboratory Karachi, the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has issued a rapid alert regarding nine cancer medicines as fake and illegal.

The medicines have been declared counterfeit and illegal under Section 3 of the Drugs Act, 1976. Quality and efficacy of counterfeit medicines are uncertain; their use can be fatal.

Regulatory bodies and provincial drug control directorates must step up surveillance. Regulatory bodies should seize batches of counterfeit and illegal medicines from the market. Distributors and medical stores must immediately report counterfeit and illegal medicines.
