The Karachi Traffic Police have announced a comprehensive traffic management plan for the central mourning processions being held on 20 Safar 1448 Hijri (August 4, 2026) on account of Chehlum. The arrangements have been made to facilitate mourners while ensuring smooth traffic flow across the city.
According to the traffic advisory, the main central procession will commence at 9:00 AM from Nishtar Park and will proceed along its traditional route before concluding at Hussainian Iranian Imambargah, Kharadar.
The Traffic Police have urged commuters to cooperate with law enforcement personnel and use designated alternative routes to avoid inconvenience.
Traffic Diversions
The following traffic arrangements will remain in effect throughout the procession:
Alternative Routes (Heavy Traffic)
- Vehicles arriving from Numaish towards MA Jinnah Road will be diverted via Bahadur Yar Jang Road.
- Traffic coming from Liaquatabad through Nazimabad towards Guru Mandir will be diverted to Lasbela Chowk.
- Heavy vehicles traveling from Hassan Square to People’s Chowrangi via University Road will be diverted through Pir Sabaqatullah Shah Rashdi Road (formerly University Road Link) towards NIPA Chowrangi.
Alternative Routes (Light Traffic)
- Vehicles from Shahrah-e-Faisal heading towards Shahrah-e-Quaideen (Nursery) may use Society Light Signal and proceed via Khalid Bin Waleed Road to their destinations.
- Traffic from Jail Chowrangi and Gurumandir heading towards MA Jinnah Road should use Soldier Bazaar Road.
Alternative Route (Motorcycles Only)
- Motorcyclists coming from Garden towards MA Jinnah Road may proceed through Aga Khan III Road to Nishtar Road, from where they can continue to their destinations.
Procession Route
The central procession will follow its traditional route from Nishtar Park to Hussainian Iranian Imambargah, Kharadar. During the event:
- Traffic from Jamshed Road towards M.A. Jinnah Road will remain restricted. Motorists should use Bahadur Yar Jang Road, Soldier Bazaar Road, or other designated alternative routes.
- Traffic from Jamshed Quarters towards Numaish will also be diverted through alternative roads.
Entry Restrictions
The Traffic Police stated that only participants of the procession will be allowed access to the procession route. Vehicles equipped with special stickers issued by the Traffic Police will be permitted to enter designated parking areas.
In addition, vehicles carrying religious scholars (Ulema) participating in the procession must display the official windscreen sticker issued by the Traffic Police. Entry without the authorized sticker will not be permitted.
Designated Parking Areas
Participants have been directed to park their vehicles only at the following designated locations:
- Nishtar Road, Garden Road, Lasbela, MA Jinnah Road and nearby designated parking zones
- Liaquatabad, Teen Hatti, Jahangir Road and Guru Mandir parking areas
- University Road Link parking area
- Pakistan Chowk, Kharadar, KMC Building vicinity and surrounding designated parking facilities
