Rising LPG prices have added to the financial pressures already faced by consumers across Pakistan. Despite official rates being set by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), LPG is reportedly being sold at much higher prices in several major cities, leaving households and businesses struggling with increased expenses.
It should be noted that OGRA has set the official LPG price at Rs. 254 per kilogram for the month of August.
However in Karachi, LPG is not available at the rates fixed by OGRA. In different areas of the city, LPG is being sold at Rs. 340 to Rs. 370 per kilogram, causing serious concerns among household consumers.
The situation is similar in Lahore, where no uniform LPG price is being observed. Shopkeepers in different areas are charging rates according to their own discretion.
Compared with OGRA’s official rate of Rs. 254 per kilogram, LPG is being sold at some locations for as much as Rs. 450 per kilogram, placing an additional financial burden on middle- and low-income households.
Meanwhile, Quetta has also witnessed a continuous rise in LPG prices. Despite the government setting the price at around Rs. 252 per kilogram, LPG is being sold in wholesale markets at Rs. 380 to Rs. 420 per kilogram, affecting not only domestic consumers but also commercial users.
According to market sources, the price of LPG has increased by more than Rs. 120 per kilogram over the past three months, resulting in a significant rise in cooking and business-related expenses.
