ISLAMABAD: Revealing new details regarding the high-stakes overnight movement of incarcerated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, his sister Dr Uzma Khan alleged that state authorities systematically violated multiple Supreme Court mandates during the operation, including completely excluding his personal physician, Dr Faisal Sultan, from meeting or evaluating the former prime minister.

Addressing a press conference following the overnight transfer, Dr Uzma detailed how a process framed by the government as judicial compliance instead unfolded as a series of procedural diversions, secrecy, and human rights violations.
Personal Physician Excluded Despite Apex Court Orders
A key element of the Supreme Court’s August 18 interim directive was the explicit authorization for Khan’s personal physicians, Dr Faisal Sultan and Dr Asim Yousaf, to be associated with all medical board evaluations, diagnostic check-ups, and treatment protocols.
According to Dr Uzma, both she and Dr Faisal Sultan arrived at Adiala Jail around 8:00 PM upon being summoned by authorities. However, after waiting together in administrative quarters until midnight, Dr Faisal was separated from the process.
“At around 12:40 AM, DSP Sibtain asked Dr Faisal to step outside,” Dr Uzma stated. “He was never taken to see Imran Khan, nor was he permitted to oversee or join the medical evaluation.”
Dr Uzma confirmed that Dr Faisal Sultan did not meet the former premier at any point during the night, marking a direct departure from the apex court’s binding order requiring personal physician access during medical reviews.
Pattern of Supreme Court Order Violations
The exclusion of Dr Faisal Sultan highlights a broader pattern of non-compliance with the directives issued by the three-member Supreme Court bench, headed by Justice Shahid Waheed:
– Bypassing Shifa International Hospital: The apex court explicitly ordered Khan’s transfer to Shifa International Hospital. Instead, authorities executed a secretive diversion under cover of darkness to the government-run Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), seating Khan in an OPD room.
– Bypassing Hospitalization and Sub-Jail Setup: The court directed that Khan remain admitted at the hospital facility under a sub-jail framework until September 17. Instead, he was subjected to a four-hour check-up and returned to Adiala Jail by 5:00 AM.
– Deprivation of Fundamental Rights: While the court emphasized safeguarding the health, dignity, and family access of the prisoner, Khan conveyed during the brief reunion that he remains under complete human isolation, deprived of reading material, television, or routine family access for over 10 months.

Describing their emotional reunion inside the PIMS OPD—their first meeting in 10 months—Dr Uzma shared that the PTI founder became visibly overwhelmed.

“He told me, ‘My sister, I am seeing you after 10 months,’ and repeatedly said he is being subjected to physical and mental torture (zulm),” Dr Uzma recounted, noting that Khan complained of persistent severe headaches, cardiac palpitations, and ignored medical requests in prison.
“عمران خان کو میں نے کہا کہ ساری قوم آپ کے ساتھ ہے، عمران خان نے کہا باہر جا کر بتاو کہ میرے ساتھ ظلم کر رہے ہیں، یہ میری نہیں سنتے، یہ انسان نہیں ہیں، میں نے کہا کہ جس جس نے تمہارے ساتھ ظلم کیا اسے ہم نہیں چھوڑیں گے”

She clarified that Khan never refused a transfer to Shifa Hospital and expressed relief when told they were legally bound for the private facility, unaware he was about to be returned to prison.
“Imran Khan was repeatedly saying that an attempt was being made to kill him in the style of Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi,” Dr Uzma stated.
Before being returned to custody, Khan directed a message to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi to accelerate party mobilizations.
While Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar maintained that specialists evaluated Khan and declared him “medically fit,” the admission of changing the venue to PIMS and excluding personal physicians has set the stage for a major legal battle over contempt of court when the Supreme Court resumes proceedings.
