Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak has voiced concerns over Prime Minister Netanyahu’s susceptibility to the influence of his cabinet’s extremist ministers. Barak suggests that these ministers are pushing for an expansion of the conflict, purportedly to expedite the arrival of a savior figure, often associated with biblical prophecy.
In an interview with the French news channel LCI, Barak highlighted Netanyahu’s perceived entrapment by racist and extremist elements within his government. He suggests that Netanyahu, motivated by a desire to maintain his grip on power, is allowing these ministers to dictate policy, despite the potentially catastrophic consequences for Israel.
Barak emphasized that the preferred course for Israel would be to collaborate with its American allies. However, he alleges that Netanyahu’s ministers are advocating for a more aggressive approach, with the aim of triggering a widespread conflict to usher in what they believe to be the arrival of a messianic figure.
It’s important to note the religious significance attached to the concept of the Messiah in the Jewish faith. Traditionally, the Messiah, or Moshiach in Hebrew, is believed to be a descendant of King David who will emerge towards the end of times to deliver salvation to the Jewish people.
This perspective sheds light on the gravity of Barak’s concerns, as any actions taken under the guise of hastening the arrival of a messianic figure could have far-reaching implications for both Israel and the broader region.
