The Directorate General of Immigration & Passports (DGIP) has launched a new system allowing applicants to capture and upload fingerprints online, as part of Pakistan’s e-passport and digital identity initiatives.
The move eliminates the need for in-person visits to passport offices for biometric data collection, particularly benefiting overseas Pakistanis and users of the DGIP e-services portal.
Earlier, applicants for machine-readable passports (MRPs) had to visit passport offices in person to have fingerprints recorded using dedicated biometric devices. Under the new system, fingerprints can now be submitted in two ways:
Applicants can capture fingerprints in real time using their smartphone cameras through the official Pak-ID Mobile App, available on Android and iOS.
The app provides step-by-step guidance to ensure proper alignment and image quality.
Moreover, users can download a fingerprint form (Performa) from the DGIP e-services portal, manually record their impressions, scan the document at 600-dpi resolution, and upload the image online.
