ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has reiterated that the development of the agriculture sector was the topmost priority of the PTI-led federal government.
The statement came while chairing a meeting in Islamabad today (Monday) on the proposal to provide a subsidy on tube wells in the agricultural sector. In this regard, PM Imran directed the concerned authorities to formulate a strategy by involving provinces.
Minister for National Food Security Syed Fakhar Imam, Minister for Energy Omar Ayub, Finance Advisor Dr. Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, and senior officials were also present on the occasion.
During the meeting, matters pertaining to relief for small farmers and the development of agriculture in the country were discussed. The Prime Minister asserted that the development of the agriculture sector was linked with the prosperity of the country.
Earlier in this month, Advisor to Prime Minister on Finance Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh had announced Rs 50 billion relief for the agriculture sector, which will be distributed soon.
The statement came while talking to a delegation of farmers association led by Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi. Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh said, “We will completely support farmers and will also include their suggestions in the budget.”
