ISLAMABAD: The Federal Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, whose party couldn’t win a single National Assembly seat in yesterday’s by-elections, has made an absurd claim that PMLN secured secured more votes this time.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf, it may be added here, won 6 out of 8 National Assembly seats while the two other seats from Karachi and Multan, were claimed by Pakistan People’s Party, while the PMLN couldn’t win a single NA seat.
Addressing a press briefing here on Monday, Rana Sanaullah said the PTI secure up to 10 to 12 thousand more votes in every constituency only because of the reason that the government had increased power tariff.
He said the federal government made stiff decisions for the betterment of the country, and paid the price in by-polls. ‘Winning of by-elections doesn’t mean you can remove government by unconstitutional means,” he said, adding that if a Long March was launched, it would be met with full force.
Rana Sanaullah said that PTI secured a total of 5,47,000 accumulated votes in yesterday’s by-elections, while on the other hand, PDM too secured a total of 4,75,000 votes, adding that if the PTI leadership wanted us to accept the decision of their voters, then they would also have to accept the decision of those who voted in favor of the PDM candidates [in yesterday’s by-elections].
Rana Sanaullah said that the Election Commission of Pakistan deserved appreciation for conducting the by-polls in a responsible and impartial manner, and that democratic posture warranted that results of free and fair elections were accepted.
He strongly criticized PTI and its leadership for resorting to baseless defamatory propaganda against the Chief Election Commissioner, adding that yesterday’s by-polls were testimony to the fact that the institutions were fulfilling their responsibilities within the constitutional ambit.
