ISLAMABAD: Dengue fever has claimed a life in Islamabad on Monday, according to federal capital’s health authorities.
The patient, a resident of the capital’s sector G-12, had been under treatment in Holy Family Hospital, sources said and added three patients have died of the mosquito-borne viral infection in Islamabad over the past two weeks, the sources said, adding two of the victims hailed from rural areas while one from an urban area.
They said 30 more citizens were diagnosed with dengue fever over the previous 24 hours.
Delay in fumigation by the administration resulted in an upsurge in dengue patients this season, the sources said. Most patients of the dengue hemorrhagic fever have been admitted to hospitals in Rawalpindi.
On Sunday, Health authorities feared Pakistan might face an outbreak of the mosquito-borne disease, keeping in view the recent spike in dengue cases across the country.
According to the Punjab health department, ninety cases of dengue virus were reported across Punjab yesterday.
Meanwhile, Rawalpindi reported six cases of dengue virus while Vehari, Sargodha and DI Khan had reported one case each of the virus over the past day.
Furthermore, 32 more people were infected with the virus in Islamabad during the past 24 hours, pushing the tally of the cases to 177. Dengue larvae were found at 158 spots by health authorities on Saturday.
