Former world champions England edged past Nepal by just four runs in a thrilling encounter during the fifth match of the ICC T20 World Cup, but it was Nepal who truly won hearts with their fearless performance.
In the match played in Mumbai, England batted first and set Nepal a daunting target of 185 runs.
Chasing the target, Nepal put up a spirited fight and took the English bowlers by surprise with aggressive and confident batting. The Nepali side kept the contest alive until the very last over.
Nepal eventually finished on 180 runs for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs. In the final over, Nepal required 10 runs, but England’s Sam Curran held his nerve and delivered an excellent over, conceding just five runs to seal the win for England.
Following Nepal’s impressive showing, former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn publicly offered his services to the Nepali team. In a post on X, Steyn wrote that he would be happy to assist Nepal whenever needed.

Several former international cricketers from around the world also praised Nepal’s performance. Former Indian batsman Yuvraj Singh applauded the team, saying they stood firm against one of the world’s best sides and fought until the final ball, proving what belief and courage can achieve.
“This is how teams are built and champions emerge. The cricketing world is watching,” Yuvraj Singh added.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan also praised the contest, writing on X: “What a fantastic game of cricket. Matches like these are what bring the game closer to the fans. Nepal’s players showed exceptional skill.”
