Cylinder explosion caused Tezgam tragedy, train driver

LAHORE: Train driver, Muhammad Siddique said that 6 to 7 gas cylinder explosions sat the bogies of the train on fire.
According to sources, Siddique further revealed that the incident occurred at 6:20 am and he immediately stopped the train at 6:23 am when one of the passengers pulled the chain.

He also expressed deep sorrow over the loss of precious lives.
The driver said that after seeing fire in the bogies, he along with others separated engulfed bogies from the others to prevent further loss and destruction.

Earlier on Thursday, Federal minister for railways Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed accepted the negligence of the department for allowing gas cylinder on train.
At least 73 people were killed and several injured when fire broke out in three bogies of Tezgam Express at Liaquatpur in Rahim Yar Khan on Thursday morning.

The government has announced compensation money for the affectees of the incident. The government will give Rs. 1.5 million to the families of the deceased whereas Rs. 0.5 million will be given to the injured.
