WUHAN: The Chinese government has resumed the metro services in Wuhan, the city where the coronavirus was first detected two months ago.
The borders have also been reopened after being cut-off from the rest of the country for two months. Wuhan accounts for about 60% of China’s coronavirus cases, but they have fallen sharply in recent weeks, a sign that the measures are working.
Wuhan, the city which received its first virus case in December last year, will be fully operational from next month as according to Chinese authorities, as no new case of the coronavirus has been reported in the city for five days.
China banned people from leaving or entering Wuhan on 23rd January. Trains and flights were canceled and checkpoints set up on roads into the central province as more than 2,500 people have died in Wuhan out of 3,270 nationwide.
The coronavirus has so far caused more than 18,900 deaths worldwide, affecting more than four million people and had killed 3281 people and affected 81281 in China up till now.
