RAWALPINDI: The head of Awami Muslim League (AML) and former interior minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has expressed his confidence in the Constitution to emerge victorious against the doctrine of necessity.

Taking to Twitter on Friday, former minister shared his thoughts on the hearing of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) plea against the postponement of elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Sheikh Rashid said “the bench of the Supreme Court will sit again today and will give a decision according to the oath and the Constitution. The nation had never imagined what is happening in the Supreme Court. The nation stands by the chief justice.”

Sheikh Rashid also criticized the government for running away from elections and stated that they would have to hold elections as it was not the year of 1997 (a reference to split in SC judges caused by Nawaz Sharif and Rafiq Tarar). He said emergency could not be imposed in the country, and that Justice Cornelius, and not Justice Munir would be remembered.
The former minister also criticized an alleged plan of government to form Patriot Group of 35 parliamentarians, stating that they were moving towards collective suicide and sacrificing the state. He further stated that the issuance of Sukuk bonds had been stopped, and the rulers had welcomed suo motu when the ruling of Qasim Suri was annulled at 12 o’clock at night but rejected the suo motu when the issue of elections in 90 days was taken up.
