COAS calls for Corps commanders conference tomorrow

RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa has summoned Corps Commanders Conference tomorrow.
The situation after Indian move to end the special status of Occupied Kashmir and situation along Line of Control (LoC) will be discussed tomorrow.
Pakistan’s response to any misadventure by India will be discussed in the meeting.
Earlier today, Indian prime minister Narendra Modi signed a bill to remove Article 370 from the Indian constitution. The amendment terminates the special status given to Kashmir.
A cabinet meeting was held on Monday morning at Modi’s residence.
The Indian authorities have banned public movement and closed all educational institutions in Kashmir.
The crackdown imposed on late Sunday night has left millions stranded in their homes as authorities also suspended some internet services and deployed an additional 28,000 troops around the increasingly tense region.
The residents of occupied Kashmir, therefore, live under a separate set of laws as compared to Indian citizens elsewhere in the country, including legislation related to citizenship, ownership of property, and fundamental rights.
On Sunday, United Nations urged India and Pakistan to exercise maximum restraint amid escalating tensions along the LoC in the disputed Kashmir region.
