ISLAMABAD: The import of cell phones into Pakistan augmented by 63.62 percent during the first five months of the current financial year as compared to the corresponding period of last year.
Pakistan Bureau of Statistics to data relived that Pakistan imported cell phones worth the US $ 498.466 million for the period of July-November of the contemporary financial year as compared to the imports of US $ 304.651 million during July-November of last financial year. (2018-19), shows a growth of 63.62 percent.
On a year-on-year basis, the import of cell phones witnessed an enlargement of 150.29 percent in November 2019, as compared to the imports of the same month of last year.
Earlier, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman, Shabbar Zaidi, has said that the recommendations of free of duty import of mobile phones under the gear rule would be presented before the federal cabinet.
He said while briefing the Senate Committee of Information Technology and Telecommunications, that the duty-free import under the baggage rule was tainted in the past years, thus the government takes to bake the free facility. As of now, duty taxes would have charged upon cell phone and tablet imports.
