Case lodged for ‘Sindh Games’ copyright infringement

KARACHI: A case has been lodged under the Copyright Act for infringement and using the name of the Sindh Games.
This is the first time in the history of sports the law has been invoked against a sports association for copyright violation of sports tournament.
Sindh Olympic Association (SOA) secretary-general Ahmed Ali Rajput and Director Sports Muhammad Aslam and other office-bearers have been booked for copyright violations.
Sindh Games Association (SGA) President and organiser Sindh Games Mudassir Arain has lodged a case at Artillery Maidan Police Station for copyright violations. He claimed that the SGA owns the copyright to use the ‘Sindh Games’ trademark.
He said the government of Sindh should organise the Sindh Games with the SGA and and they will extend full support for sporting activities. He said action will be taken if anyone was found using the name without permission.
Arain has convened a emergency session and invited legal experts to take further action. A FIR has been lodged against Rajput who was released on bail after initial statement at the police station.
