KARACHI: A major road accident occurred near Natha Khan Bridge on Shahrah-e-Faisal, one of Karachi’s busiest thoroughfares, after a speeding Vigo pickup allegedly drove recklessly, triggering a collision involving four vehicles, including a school van carrying young children. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred when the Vigo driver allegedly attempted to forcefully push past a vehicle travelling ahead. In an attempt to avoid a collision, the driver of another car suddenly applied the brakes, causing vehicles following behind to crash into one another.
The impact severely damaged the school van, leaving its front section and driver’s-side door badly wrecked. The most alarming aspect of the incident was that the van was carrying young schoolchildren, including boys and girls aged between two and eight.
The sudden collision left the children terrified, with panic and cries of distress reported at the scene.
Several people present at the location immediately rushed to help and pulled the children out of the damaged van. Remarkably, all the children and the van’s staff escaped unharmed.
Eyewitnesses and other motorists later praised the school van driver for his quick thinking and presence of mind, saying his timely response helped prevent a potentially serious loss of life.
