LAHORE: Bangladesh cricket team has overtaken Pakistan in the MRF Tyres ICC ODI Team Rankings after beating the South African side by 2-1 in the One Day International series in Johannesburg.
The Men in Green lost to Australia in the first ODI of the three-match series by 88 runs which allowed Bangladesh to be marginally ahead in the rankings with 93 points – the same as Pakistan.
Pakistan lost their last ODI series against England 3-0 in July 2021 and haven’t played ODI cricket since then, in contrast to Bangladesh, who continues their impressive performance in the ODI format.
The Bengal Tigers have won four consecutive ODI series beating Sri Lanka (2-1) and Afghanistan (2-1) at home while whitewashing Zimbabwe away. Recently, the Bangladesh team defeated South Africa 2-1 for the first time in South Africa.
Pakistan and tied with Bangladesh at 93 rating points and is currently playing Australia at home and has a chance to jump up to number six by winning the remaining two games of the series.
Meanwhile, as per the ICC Men’s Cricket Super League standings, Pakistan also slipped to number 11 after gaining only 40 points in 10 matches with four wins and six losses. Bangladesh leads the table with 120 points after winning 12 out of their 18 matches.
The Kangaroos secured a comfortable 88-run victory over Pakistan in the first game of their three-match series on Tuesday with the help of a blistering century of Australia’s Travis Head.
Travis Head’s 72-ball 101 guided Australia to a challenging 313-7 before the 28-year-old turned his arm over for 2-35 to bowl Pakistan out for 225 in 45.2 overs.
Leg-spinner Adam Zampa also starred with the ball, taking 4-38 in ten probing overs. The victory gives Australia a 1-0 lead in the three-match series, their tenth successive ODI win over Pakistan since January 2017.
