QUETTA: A deadly shooting in Balochistan has left two women dead and at least two others wounded after gunmen opened fire on a vehicle carrying a family from Karachi in the Segi area of Qila Abdullah, police said.
Authorities reported that a father and his daughter were injured in the incident, which occurred when residents from a local tribal group allegedly fired on the occupants’ vehicle after it failed to stop. The victims who lost their lives were women, according to initial accounts.
The injured were shifted to the Trauma Center in Quetta, where they are being treated in critical condition, police added.
Police said the deceased and injured hail from Karachi and had arrived in Gulistan Tehsil two days earlier for business. After the shooting, they were taken to medical facilities, before being moved to Quetta for specialized care.
Local officials further noted that Segi is effectively a no-go area for the movement of ordinary people due to long-running tribal enmities, where travel and travel-related movement can be restricted and volatile.
Security agencies have been alerted and investigations are underway to determine the circumstances of the attack and to identify those responsible.
