Attack on DI Khan’s checkpoint kills two people
DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Two people were killed in Dera Ismail Khan (DI Khan) on Saturday after a police checkpoint in the district was attacked.
The police personnel were attacked by eight unidentified men riding a motorcycle in the Durban area of the district. As a result, two civilians were killed.
One of those killed in the attack was a private security guard. The security personnel remained unhurt in the incident and the attackers managed to escape after police personnel retaliated.
Police said that the bodies of the two deceased were transferred to a nearby hospital and a barrier was established around the area after the attack. Security in the district is on high alert.
Earlier in July, at least nine people were martyred and thirty others injured in a gun attack on a police check post and a subsequent suicide blast at the hospital to which the wounded had been shifted in DI Khan. Six policemen and three civilians were killed in the deadly twin attacks.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Mehmood Khan had strongly condemned the tragic attacks, while KP Police Inspector General Dr. Naeem Khan said that those behind the heinous attack would be brought to justice.
