ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has ordered Inspector General of Punjab Police to register First Information Report (FIR) into the incident of assassination attempt on Chairman PTI Imran Khan in Wazirabad.

The 5-judges bench, headed by Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial, passed remarks that the delay in registering FIR means evidences were being wasted. The Chief Justice warned that if the FIR wasn’t registered in 24 hours, the SC would take Suo Motu notice.
During the course of proceedings today, Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial said it was imperative to register FIR under criminal justice system, but 90 hours had passed and yet there was no such progress.
He further passed remarks that it had become quite difficult to dig out fact these days, since the fact had buried under several layers of lies.

Addressing the IG of Punjab Police, Chief Justice said it was an assassination attempt on the life of a national leader, police should understand the gravity of the matter.
He further directed the IGP of Punjab to act as per law and the SC would support him, adding that if the police came across any hurdle, just inform the court.
The Chief Justice said it was a judicial responsibility to ensure smooth running of criminal justice system, and even if the provincial government had a different opinion, the police should act according to the law.
